My First Ambulance Event...

Well I must admit that today was one of my favourite days. I got to take out my own ambulance and crew it with my best friend Mrs H. We went to the Maihihi Trail Ride with 430 riders!

Well we had 5 patients with 2 of them being transported to hospital by another ambulance. We had to load up the quad bike with our gear and drive out on the track to pick up a patient with a broken wrist. Then back to our ambulance only to discover that we had another patient who had been knocked out after falling heavily from his bike. With those 2 sorted out and on their way to hospital we had a break of about half and hour and then we were back on the quad bike off to the "kids track" to help a young girl who had falled from her bike and sprained her ankle. We also had a few bee stings and bumps and bruises.

All in all a great day by my standards. Am so proud of myself and Mrs H for being brave enough to give it a go!

Can't wait for next time!

Helping People Is The Best Feeling Ever...Try It!

Wow life takes on so many different faces that sometimes it is hard to remember who we are!

Since starting my Ambulance career my life has changed in so many ways. Today I got to take one of our ambulances and escort a group of 20 teenagers from Te Kuiti who are with the SADD group from their high school, as they ran 20kms from Te Kuiti to Otorohanga raising money for Christchurch. To such dedication in people so young was very inspirational for me.

It is great to be seen in our community. Our community should not be strangers to us and we should be strangers to them.

This weekend I am going to crew at my first event for St John. Thank goodness I have been able to talk one of my favourite friend and fellow crew member to come with me. I will admit that I am a little apprehensive however this is what I want to do so I will do it with pride and great honour to those I am out there to help!

I am learning so much since starting my National Diploma and am being able to put it into practice each time we are called to help a patient. This is one job in which I will never stop learning or have something new to learn about!

Take care out there my fellow community members both far and wide.
